Crochet Hat sizes with this Double crochet pattern
Newborn baby head circumference, 13" - 14", Hat height = 5.5 to 6"= D hook, If you want to have a bulky hat, use this pattern here with a J hook: http://crochetjewel.com/?p=14362
Baby 3 to 6 months, Head Cir, 14" - 17 ", Hat height= 6.5 - 7"=E hook, 
baby 6-12 months, 16"-19" head cir., hat length=6.5-7"=F hook,
toddler-preschooler (12 months-3 yrs), 18"-20" head cir., hat length=7" =G hook, 
child 4-10 yrs, head cir., 19"-20 1/2 "", hat length= 7.5"=H hook, 
teens, head cir., 20 1/2"-22", hat length, 7.5-8"=I hook, 
Adult women, 21.5"-22.5", hat length, 8"= J
use smaller hook for smaller size or larger hook for a larger hat.

ch=chain
sl st=slip stitch
sc=single crochet
dc=double crochet
dc2tog=double crochet 2 together
hdc=half double crochet

How to Crochet a Double Crochet Hat Video:
Instructions:
J hook
White yarn
rnd 1: Work 11 dc in a Magic Circle, sl st on top of the chain 3. -11 dc

rnd 2. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in same st. as joining, 2dc in each dc around. join with sl st on top of chain 3. -22 dc
rnd 3. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), *2dc in next dc, dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. -33 dc
rnd 4. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the next dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. -44 dc
rnd 5. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the 2 next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next 3 dc, 2dc in the next dc.  Repeat from * around, join with sl st. -55 dc
rnds 6-9. *ch 3 (Counts as first dc), dc in each dc around, join with sl st. *Repeat for 9 rounds
rnd 10. sl st with light pink yarn, ch 3, dc in each st around, join with sl st.
rnd 11. sl st with dark pink yarn, ch 3, dc in each st around, join with sl st.
rnd 12. sl st with light pink yarn, ch 3, dc in each st around, join with sl st.
rnd 11. sl st with white yarn, ch 1, sc around, join with sl st on the chain 1.
rnd 12. ch 3, *back post dc in the sc, front post dc in the next sc, *Repeat around, join in the ch 3.
rnd 13. ch 3, *back post dc in the dc, front post dc in the next dc, *Repeat around, join in the ch 3, Fasten off. Weave in the ends.
Ribbon: G hook, chain 29, sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc in the next 13, work 2 sc in the 14 chain, sc in each sc across, sl st.
Row 2. sl st with white yarn, sl st in each sc around. Fasten off. Sew the Ribbon on top of the stripes, with the seam ch 3 in the back.
