Crochet an Ear flap Hat Pattern

This crochet earflap hat is a great way to keep your child's ears warm and look cute at the same time. This crochet hat is done with medium worsted yarn and a cute accent flower.

If you tell others about my work, please only link back to my blog, but don't copy my patterns to your site. Also you can sell anything you make from my patterns, but don't sell the free pattern. Thank you!

Newborn Bulky Hat, instead of a D hook, Use a J hook with this pattern: http://www.amyscrochetpatterns.com/2015/01/crochet-baby-0-3-months-football-hat.html, when the increase stops, then continue the pattern as written in this pattern with the J hook.

rnd 5. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the 2 next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next 3 dc, 2dc in the next dc. Repeat from * around, join with sl st. -55 dc
Rnds 6- . *ch 2, dc in each st around, join sl st., *repeat . When the hat reached about 5 inches long, I added the pink yarn, I did one row of pink with ch 2, dc in each stitch around, sl st.

Then I did two more rows of purple to finish, ch 2, dc in each st across, join with sl st. fasten off.

Ear flaps:
Make 2
H hook
1st ear flap, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your purple yarn, begin the dc stitches, (like to have the seam in the back of the hat, so I do the ear flap on the side of the hat)
2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in dc directly across from the last dc from the other ear flap. follow directions below for both ear flaps.

Row 1. ch 2, dc in the next 11 dc stitches, turn. -11 sts
Row 2. ch 2, dc2tog. dc in the next 6 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -9
Row 3. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st., turn. -7
Row 4. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 2 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -5
Row 5. ch 2, dc2tog twice, dc in last st. cut yarn and pull through -3

The braid from the center of the ear flap at the bottom, attaches two colors of yarn, pink and purple yarn, with an Sl st in the center of the bottom of the ear flap and chain 30, and so st it off and cut yarn.
sc around the edge of the hat with pink yarn.

Flower:
H hook
Pink yarn
ch 5, join with sl st
rnd 1. Work 10 sc in the ring, join with sl st.
rnd 2. sc in the same stitch, *ch 3, skip the next st. sc in the next st, *repeat until you have 5(3 chains spaces)
rnd 3. *ch 1, do 6 dc in the chain 3 space, ch 1, sl st in the previous sc, *repeat until you have 5(6 pedals), sl st.

youtube has great videos on how to do this. I may make one soon. you yarn over like you are going to do a double crochet, then bring up three loops on the hook like a dc, then yarn over and bring bring two loops through the hook like the first part of a dc, then leave two loops on the hook. continue to the next stitch with two loops on the hook, yarn over and you will have 4 loops on your hook, yarn over and bring two loops through your hook, you will have three loops left on your hook, yarn over and bring all three loops through your hook, and you are finished, hope this helps.

I do not understand how the ear flaps go on, It says to make to and the placement of the 2nd but not the 1st.

For the first one, I slip stitch my yarn on the side of the hat and have the seem of the hat in the back, or you can just continue on from the finishing of your hat and do double crochet for the flap, either way is fine. I like to start again with a slip stitch for the first earflap so the seam of the hat is in the back when you wear it, 2 nd earflap, just match it with first earflap on the other side. Hope this helps
