Crochet Sock Monkey Ear flap Hat Pattern





Sock crochet hat pattern can be done in any size and done with medium worsted yarn.

Measures 19-20 inches, made it for my 4 year old.

Length: 7 inches not including the ear flaps, use smaller hook for smaller size or larger hook for a larger hat.

Supplies:

H hook
G hook
White, Red, and Grey yarn


Abbreviations:
ch=chain
sl st=slip stitch
sc=single crochet
dc=double crochet
dc2tog=double crochet 2 together
sc2tog=single crochet 2 together

Instructions:
H hook
white yarn to start for the hat

rnd 1: Start with White yarn, Work 11 dc in a Magic Circle, sl st on top of the chain 3. -11 dc
Video on a Double Crochet Magic Circle:

rnd 2. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in same st. as joining, 2dc in each dc around. join with sl st on top of chain 3. -22 dc
rnd 3. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), *2dc in next dc, dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. -33 dc
rnd 4. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the next dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. -44 dc
rnd 5. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the 2 next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next 3 dc, 2dc in the next dc. Repeat from * around, join with sl st. -55 dc
rnds 6. Ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to join. -55 dc
rnd 7. Now switch to Red yarn, ch 3 (Counts as first Dc),, dc in each stitch around. sl st -55 dc.
rnd 8. Switch to Grey yarn, *ch 3, dc in each st around, join sl st., *Repeat. continue until the hat reaches 7 inches, sl st. fasten off. (if this is a smaller size the length will be shorter, look above for sizes and what hook to use.)

Ear flaps: If you would like to add ear flaps

Make 2
H hook, Grey yarn
1st ear flap, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your orange yarn, begin the dc stitches, (like to have the seam in the back of the hat, so I do the ear flap on the side of the hat)
2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in dc directly across from the last dc from the other ear flap. follow directions below for both ear flaps.


Row 1. ch 2, dc in the next 11 dc stitches, turn. -11 sts
Row 2. ch 2, dc2tog. dc in the next 6 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -9
Row 3. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st., turn. -7
Row 4. ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 2 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -5
Row 5. ch 2, dc2tog twice, dc in last st. cut yarn and pull through -3

The braid from the center of the ear flap at the bottom, use Grey and White yarn, with a sl st in the center of the bottom of the ear flap and chain 30, and sl st it off and cut yarn.

Sc around the edge of the hat with red yarn.

Ears:

Grey yarn
Make 2
H hook
ch 2, work 6 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. sl st.
Rnd 2. *single crochet, then 2sc in the next stitch around. *repeat. (12sc)
Rnd 3. sc in each stitch around, (12sc)
Place the ears on the side of the hat as seen above.

Eyes: 2 buttons, about 2 inches apart above the mouth.


Muzzle:

H hook
Red and white yarn

Start with red yarn

chain 16
rnd 1. sc the 2nd chain from the hook, -15 st,
rnd 2. with red yarn, do not turn, sl st in the first stitch around. opposite side of beginning ch
do not turn, work around with white yarn, sl st with white yarn in that same stitch, sc in each stitch across, -13 sts.
rnd 3. do not turn, work around with your white yarn, sc in the next stitch, work 2sc in the next stitch, sc in each stitch across (16 sts) 2sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in the last stitch, sl st to the beg. stitch. -19 sts
rnd 4. continue around with single crochet one more time with white yarn. without turning, work sc across and around without turning again.  sl st. fasten off and place the mouth below the eyes. -33 sts.
