Crochet Owl Headband




You can make this headband for any child, measure their head and then subtract about 2 inches off the length around. So My daughter's head is 20.5 inches around, so I made the length of the headband 17.5 to 18  inches long.

I made this for my 6-year-old daughter.

You may want to use a smaller hook for the face features if it's a smaller size headband for a small child.

Supplies:
Red heart pink, green, yellow, and white yarn
H and G hook
yarn needle

Abbreviations:
sc: single Crochet
sts: stitches
ch: chain
2sctog=2 single crochet together decrease

Instructions:
H hook, start with pink yarn (chain more or less for different sizes, use a measuring tape)
Row 1. chain 71, sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, and each stitch across. turn -70 sts.
Rows 2-8.  sc in each stitch across, turn, -70sc *Repeat this row 7 more times
Rows 9-13. sl st with green yarn, sc in each stitch across, turn, *Repeat this 5 times, -70sc
Row 14. sl st with white yarn, sc in each in each stitch across, fasten off.
At the bottom of the headband, sl st with white yarn, for the bottom edge, sc in each stitch across, and fasten off. Sew the ends of the headband together. weave in the ends.

Eyes: Make 2,
black, green, and white yarn, g hook
with black yarn, chain 2, work 10sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, -10sc
sl st with green yarn, work 2sc in each stitch around, -20sc
sl st with white yarn, sc in each stitch around, -20sc, sew the eyes next to each other on top of the green part of the headband.

Beak: Yellow yarn, G hook
rnd 1. chain 5
rnd 2. sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and each stitch across, turn -4sc
rnd 3. 2sctog decrease, sc in stitch across, turn, -3sc
rnd 4. 2sctog decrease, sc in each stitch across, turn -2sc
rnd 5. 2sctog decrease, -1sc, fasten off. Sew the nose in the center below the eyes.

Ears: Make 2,  Take three strands of yarn (start with about 8 inches so you can pull it through), green, white, and pink. Take all three strands of yarn together and make a slip stitch above the eyes and pull it through, cut the yarn, leaving about 2 inches long for the ears.
