It is really cold in the winters up here in eastern Canada along the ocean coastline. This ski mask is a must have. Will put a lining in it. We get temps as low as -36 Celsius degrees with a horrible wind chill. Thank you for offering this pattern for free.

I am having problems with row 14, I am ending up with 13 or 14 unworked dc's instead of 18, Any idea what I am doing wrong?

amyscrochetpatterns said...

Before that round you have 55 stitches, make sure you follow the directions and count your stitches, but I would have to go to that pattern and make sure there isnt an error.

THANK YOU for this pattern!!! It was so easy and my grandsons love their hats! I used two strands of medium [4] yarn for extra durability and warmth. One black and one green and the other one black and one blue. They turned out great! Wish I knew how to post a photo of them here. Thank you again!!

I agree withCki64. The stitch count is out. If you take the 55 stitches and subtract the 42 stitches required, you end up with only 13 stitches. Are we both wrong?? Shirl

I changed it to see if this works better, rnd 14. Ch 3, dc in the next 20 back loops, chain 17, skip 18 dc, dc in the next dc back loop and dc in the each back loop to beginning. sl st

rnd 15. Ch 3, dc in the next 20 back loops, work 18 dc in the chain 17 aross (peep hole), dc in the next dc back loops to beginning seam. sl st

I made one for each of my boys and they turned out beautifully. Your pattern was so easy to follow that I was able to finish each one in a couple of hours. Thank you so much for sharing your pattern! The boys love them - they think they look like the Lego Ninjago ninjas :-)

What weight yarn should I use? What is the gauge (stitches / inch) to make sure my hat comes out the size intended? How much yarn do I need for different sizes? I want to be sure to purchase enough yarn from the same dye lot. Kitty D

medium worsted red heart yarn, I used less than 1/2 skein of red heart and I dont have the gauge of this hat, looks like 2 dc is 1/2 inch but cant say for sure.

Hello! Do you have any patterns that include a mouth hole as well?
Thank you so much :)

amyscrochetpatterns said...

I do not, but I would just go to the mouth part and leave a gap for the mouth.

Am I supposed to have 54 stitches for row 14? Is it chain 3 then 20dc making 21 stitches total before chaining 17? Thanks!

Praxis said...

For row 14 should I have 54 or 55 stitches? Does the chain 3 count as a dc? Like should it be 20 not counting the chain 3? I do ch3 then 20dc. If I count the ch3 it's 21 stitches. Then ch17 making it 38 if I count the ch3. Then I only get 54 stitches in. I guess I get them that way either way... probably because of the skip 18st.

amyscrochetpatterns said...

I did this pattern so long ago, but I think the chain 3 counts as a dc, and then the next dc is the 2nd, and so on.

Unknown said...

I changed your pattern slightly. instead of 11 dc i did 12. followed pattern to eye opening and did and did 23dc, chain 14 and 23dc. worked everythinh in dc no back loops. everythingcame out correct.

aka miss jackson said...

followed the gauge and the instructions but it didnt even fit my melon. kinda bummed

amyscrochetpatterns said...

go up a hook size or two, or increase one more round, I would do the increase of one hook size to make it fit.

An easy pattern to work with. Thank you.
