Abbreviations: dc=double crochet
sc=single crochet
sl st=slip stitch
ch=chain

crocodile scale= 5dc around the dc from top to bottom, ch 2, 5dc around the 2nd dc from bottom to top.

Supplies:
H hook
Red Heart Mulit-colored Yarn,  1 1/2 Skeins
button (I bought the barrel button at Walmart)
Row 1: Chain 27, work two dc in the 6th chain from the hook, chain 1, skip two chains, work a dc, *chain 1, skip two chains, work 2 dc, chain 1, skip two chains, work a dc, *Repeat until the end, at the end, dc in the last chain, (13 dc)
Row 2: Turn, Ch 1, skip the the first dc, go back around the post of the first dc of the two dc, *work 5 dc around that dc post from top to bottom, ch 2, work 5 dc of the next dc post from bottom to top, sl st in the next dc, *Repeat across,  sl st in the in the 2nd chain of the last dc, (4 crocodile scales made)
Row 3: Turn, Chain 3, dc in the same stitch, ch 1, *work a dc in the center of the crocodile stitch, ch 1, work 2 dc in the sl st, *Repeat across, (14 dc)
Row 4:  Turn, Ch 1, *work 5 dc in the first dc from top to bottom, ch 2, work 5 dc in the 2nd dc from bottom to top, sl st in the next dc, *Repeat across, (5 crocodile scales made)
Row 5: Turn, Ch 1, sl st in the center of the crocodile stitch, ch 4, *work 2 dc in the sl st, ch 1, work dc in the center of the crocodile stitch, ch 1, *Repeat across, (13 dc)
Row 6: *Repeat row 2
Row 7: *Repeat row 3
Row 8: *Repeat row 4
Row 9: *Repeat row 5
Now for each 4 rows, repeat rows 2-5 until your desired length.

I worked this pattern up 40 Rows; If you want bigger scales, use a bigger scale.
I sewed a button on the bottom part and fastened it to secure the neck warmer.
