How to Crochet a Moose Hat Pattern


Enjoy this Moose Hat Pattern! This cute hat can be done in any size just change the hook size and use medium worsted yarn.

Length: 7.5 inches , use smaller hook for smaller size or larger hook for a larger hat.

Supplies:  H hook, made this for my 5 year old

I used light brown, brown yarn

Abbreviations: ch=chain sl st=slip stitch sc=single crochet dc=double crochet dc2tog=double crochet 2 together hdc=half do0ble crochet hdc2tog=half double crochet 2 together

Instructions: H hook brown yarn for the hat


rnd 1: Work 11 dc in a Magic Circle, sl st on top of the chain 3. -11 dc
Video on a Double Crochet Magic Circle:
rnd 2. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in same st. as joining, 2dc in each dc around. join with sl st on top of chain 3. -22 dc
rnd 3. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), *2dc in next dc, dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. -33 dc
rnd 4. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the next dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, Repeat from *around, join with sl st. -44 dc
rnd 5. ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in the 2 next two dc, 2dc in the next dc, *dc in the next 3 dc, 2dc in the next dc. Repeat from * around, join with sl st. -55 dc
rnds 6-desired length (lengths are listed above), Ch 3, (Counts as first Dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to join. -55 dc, *Repeat to length that is about 7 inches long or to your desired length, Slip stitch.

Ear flaps (optional)
H hook, brown yarn
1st ear flap, you can slip stitch onto the side of the hat with your brown yarn, begin the dc stitches, (like to have the seam in the back of the hat, so I do the ear flap on the side of the hat)
2nd flap, fold hat in half and sl st in dc directly across from the last dc from the other ear flap. follow directions below for both ear flaps.


Row 1. ch 2. dc in the next 11 dc stitches, turn. -11 sts
Row 2. ch 2. dc2tog. dc in the next 6 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -9
Row 3. ch 2. dc2tog, dc in the next 4 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st., turn. -7
Row 4. ch 2. dc2tog, dc in the next 2 stitches. dc2tog. dc in the last st. turn. -5
Row 5. ch 2. dc2tog twice, dc in last st. cut yarn and pull through -3

Eyes:
Make 2
light brown
H hook,
ch 2, work 6 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. (6sc) sl st. fasten off.
Place eyes above the muzzle about 1 inch apart

Ears:
Make two
brown yarn
H hook
rnd 1.  ch 2, 4 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. (4sc)
rnd 2. work 2sc in each stitch around. (8sc)
rnd 3. ch 1, sc in each sc. (8sc)
rnd 4. ch 1, *2sc in the first ch, sc in the next sc, *repeat around. (12sc)
rnd 5. ch 1, *2sc in first sc, sc in the next two sc, *repeat around. (16sc)
Sew the ears on top of the hat on the outside next to the antlers.

Muzzle:
light brown yarn
H hook

ch 27, hdc (half double crochet) in the 2nd chain from the hook and across. turn -26 sts.
rnd 1. ch 1, hdc2tog (half double crochet 2 together) in first two hdc, hdc in each stitch across, hdc2tog in the last 2 hdc. turn -24 sts.
rnd 2. ch 1, hdc2tog in the first two hdc, hdc in each stitch across, hdc2tog in last 2 hdc. turn -22 sts.
rnd 3. ch 1, hdc2tog in the first two hdc, hdc in each stitch across, hdc2tog in last 2 hdc. turn -20 sts.
rnd 4. ch 1, hdc2tog in the first two hdc, hdc in each stitch across, hdc2tog in last 2 hdc. turn -18 sts.
rnd 5. ch 1, hdc2tog in the first two hdc, hdc in each stitch across, hdc2tog in last 2 hdc. turn -16 sts.
rnd 6. ch 1, (hdc2tog) twice, in the next 4 hdc, hdc in each stitch across, (hdc2tog)twice in the last 4 hdc. sl st. fasten off -12 sts.
Place the muzzle at the bottom of the hat as seen in the picture.

Nostrils:
light brown
H hook
Make 2,
ch 2, work 6 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. (6sc) sl st. fasten off.
Place the nostrils on the muzzle about 2 inches apart.

ANTLERS (make 2 large antlers) Brown yarn
I hook
H hook
(Make 4 small antlers)
Rnd 1: ch 2, Work 10 sc in first ch. Place marker in first stitch for beg of round; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Sc in each st around. Rep Rnd 2 until piece measures 2.5 or 3 inches long, stuffing as you go. Fasten off. (antlers seems to stand up better when its shorter)

ANTLER BRANCHES (make 4)
H hook
Make 2
Rnd 1: ch 2, Work 8 sc in first ch. Place marker in first stitch for beg of round; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Sc in each st around. Rep Rnd 2 until piece measures 1.5 inches long, stuffing as you go. Fasten off. Place the branches on the side of the big antler. Have the small antlers on the big antler face inward. Sew the Antlers on top of the hat. Make sure the antler are stuff very full so they stand up. Have one small branch and one bigger branch on the big antler twice.
Make 2 other smaller antlers;
Rnd 1: ch 2, Work 6 sc in first ch. Place marker in first stitch for beg of round; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Sc in each st around. Rep Rnd 2 until piece measures 1.5 inches long, stuffing as you go. Fasten off.
