Abbreviations: sc=single crochet, sl st=slip stitch, dc=double crochet,
Shell=(5dc in the same stitch)
If you want a larger hat, then try an increase or larger hook.
Start: I hook, Cream yarn
ch 5- slip stitch to form a ring,
rnd 1. ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st. on top of ch 3. -12 sts.
rnd 2. ch 3, dc in same st. as joining, 2dc in each st. around. join with sl st on top of chain 2. -24 sts.
rnd 3. ch 3 counts as the first stitch, *2dc in next st., dc in the next stitch, repeat from *around, join with sl st. -36 sts.
Rnd 4. sl st in the next st., work 5dc(shell) in the next st., *skip two dc, sc in the next st., skip two dc, work 5dc in the next st. *Repeat around, sl st in the beginning chain.
Rnd 5. sl st in the next two dc of the 1st shell, sc in the 3rd dc of the that 1st shell, *work 5dc in the next sc space, sc in the 3rd dc of the previous shell, *Repeat, sl st on top of the 3rd dc of the beginning shell.
Rnd 6. chain 3 (count as first dc), work 2dc in that same 3rd dc of that beginning shell, *sc in the 3rd dc of the next shell, work 5dc in the next sc space, *Repeat, at the end, work 2dc in the beginning shell space with the other 3dc (that will create a shell), then sl st on top of that 3rd dc of that shell.
Rnd 7. chain 1,* work 5dc in the next sc space, sc on top the 3rd dc of next shell, *Repeat, join with a sl st in the 1st beginning chain 1 space,
Rnd 8. Repeat 6
Rnd 9. Repeat 7
Alternate back and forth between rnds. 8 and 9. until your hat reaches 5 inches, then single crochet around once, then *work 3hdc in the first chain, the sl st in the next chain, *Repeat, sl st, fasten off.
I used an f hook with pink yarn.

If I wanted to make this a little larger how so I do that?
use a larger hook or add another increase round
