How to Crochet Shell Stitch Afghan



This pretty crochet shell stitch is great for scarves and blankets. I created this stitch with medium worsted yarn and J hook. It measures about 11.5 inches across. If you would like to make this stitch smaller than use a smaller hooks size. 



Abbreviations:
ch=chain
dc=double crochet
sc=single crochet
sl st=slip stitch

Multiples of 5 + 1
1 dc in the 8th ch from the hook, ch 3, 1 dc in the same space, ch 1, *1 dc in the 5th chain, ch 3, 1 dc in the in the same space, ch 1, *Repeat across, at the end, 1 dc in the last stitch

Row 2: Ch 3, turn your work, in the chain 3 space (the v-stitch) *work 7 dc, *Repeat across, in the 2nd chain, work 1 dc at the end.

Row 3. Ch 4, In the 4th dc, *work 1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc, ch 1, *Repeat across, at the end, work 1 dc in the 2nd

Row 4: Repeat row 2
Row 5: Repeat row 3, Alternate between those two Rows!
